An estimated number of 10,000 DDA flats, most of them are one-bedroom units, will likely to be available in 2016, according to DDA officials. The flats allotted under housing scheme 2014 were returned or surrendered by the allottees, citing that the rooms were too small.
Now the authority plans to turn around the refusal of such sizable scale by putting up the flats for sale around March 2016. Flats yet to be allotted or the surrendered ones will also be put up on sale as per the other schemes.
Over 9000 flats out of the total 25,034 ones sold under the housing scheme 2014 were returned by the allottees. DDA officials said the housing scheme was launched to provide affordable housing to buyers coming from middle class and lower middle class families.
They added that the housing scheme consists of 22,627 one-bedroom units, and 1800 units in 2BHK-3BHK segments. According to the officials, the flats were found to have been built in small size configurations, which the allottees cited as the main reason for refusal.
A new housing scheme targeting buyers from the high income group is likely to be launched by Delhi Development Authority in December 2016.
The official from DDA said the new housing scheme will draw attractions from the buyers considering the surge in housing demand in market. Moreover, the returnees did not check the size of the flats before applying, which in another of saying, is not the fault of the authority. The official hopes that the new scheme will garner positive response from the buyers.
“We are drawing up a list of all flats which are ready for allotment. Over 9,000 flats of 2014 scheme have been returned. We are compiling a list of flats which were either returned or not allotted under other schemes as well. Hopefully, we will announce the scheme before March next year,” said a senior DDA official.
